ETS Service from Ipoh to Padang Besar

KUALA LUMPUR APRIL 20th 2015: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) will start operation in July 2015.

As press time, there is no information yet on fare and schedule. Since Kuala Lumpur – Ipoh route is fairly expensive in comparison with regular KTM Intercity service, the new ETS Ipoh – Padang Besar route is expected to charge similarly hefty price for a ticket.

The first ETS service from Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh commenced operation in August 12th 2010.

New KL Monorail Trainset by end of December 2014

KUALA LUMPUR, December 17th 2014: RapidKL will add some new four-coach trainset to its existing KL Monorail fleet later this month.

The new four-coach trainsets have already undergone final testing rounds at the existing KL Monorail line, stopping at every stations. It is expected to reduce congestion commonly seen during peak hours, especially at stations such as Bukit Bintang and Imbi. The current ridership of KL Monorail stands at 72,000 and is expected to double after the new trainsets begin service (source).

Notable features of the new monorail include intercom for communications between passengers and train driver, CCTV on each coach, smoke detectors, top side windows that can be opened during emergency situations and LED station displays.

Near Medan Tuanku station, a new shopping mall has just been opened, which can increase the ridership of KL Monorail even further, considering its proximity with the station.

KTMB e-Ticket Payment via Maybank2u

KTM Berhad (KTMB) has recently enabled passengers to pay for their e-Ticket booking via online banking portal, Maybank2u.

The addition of Maybank2u as the alternative payment method (the other only available payment method is by VISA/Mastercard credit/debit card) is seen to be more secure because users will need to log on to their online banking account and providing Transaction Authorization Code (TAC) for the transaction, on top of the usual username and password combination.

There is no booking fee charged for KTMB e-Ticket booking via this payment method. I have personally tried to use the Maybank2u payment method for my KTM Intercity ticket purchase and it worked perfectly.

For those who are booking their tickets, I would recommend to use Internet Explorer as your browser to ensure maximum compatibility.

Of note, after booking, there is no need to print the KTM Intercity e-Ticket. You can simply show your e-Ticket on your phone/tablet screen to the ticket inspector.

Other than KTM Intercity, e-Ticket is also available for ETS trains.

Long-term Partial Road Closure – Jalan Changkat Bukit Bintang

According to announcement by MMC GAMUDA KVMRT (T) SDN BHD’s Twitter (@mrtunderground), some parts of Jalan Changkat Bukit Bintang will be closed from December 1st 2014 until May 30th 2015. Refer to the below image for information:

Power Outlets Onboard Kelana Jaya Line LRT Trains

Apparently, RapidKL’s Kelana Jaya LRT line also have power outlets along the train. Please note that this is a 4-coach train. We believe 2-coach trains should also have this one.

While we are not sure whether passengers can use them or not, we can assure you that it is working. One of the possible uses is to charge dead mobile phones, tablets and bring them back to life. This is definitely useful, especially if you are on your way from KLCC to Kelana Jaya, which takes really long time.

Other than RapidKL Kelana Jaya LRT, KTM Komuter’s Class 92 trains are also equipped with power outlet. For Class 92, it looks like it is more intended for passenger use due to high number of them.

We are not sure yet on availability of power outlets on the following trains:

  • RapidKL Kelana Jaya LRT 2-coach trains
  • RapidKL Monorail
  • RapidKL Ampang Line
  • KLIA Transit / Ekspres
  • KTM Class 81 (KTM Komuter)

Touch ‘N Go Hub, KL Sentral

Satu ketika dahulu, Touch ‘N Go mengoperasikan sebuah premis perniagaan di KL Sentral untuk menawarkan khidmat pelanggan kepada para pelanggan mereka. Antara perkhidmatan popular dalam kalangan pengguna pada ketika itu ialah tambah nilai percuma dalam kad Touch ‘N Go mereka. Selain daripada perkhidmatan tambah nilai, pengguna boleh juga menyelesaikan isu lain seperti kad hilang/dicuri dan mendapatkan kembali baki dalam kad.

Jam Operasi

Semasa mereka beroperasi di KL Sentral dahulu, jam operasinya adalah seperti berikut:

  • Isnin – Jumaat: 8:30 AM hingga 5:00 PM
  • Sabtu: 8:30 AM to 1 PM
  • Ahad: Tutup

Status Terkini

Kemas kini 26 Ogos 2023: Kini, Touch ‘N Go Hub ini tidak lagi beroperasi di KL Sentral. Namun begitu, para pengguna boleh ke Touch ‘N Go Hub di NU Sentral untuk mendapatkan perkhidmatan dari Touch ‘N Go.

Kelana Jaya Line LRT Power Outage: TNB-RapidKL Blame Game

September 19th 2014 – A brief power outage has occured on 1:50 PM in some stations along Kelana Jaya line, causing commuters to be stranded at the stations as the crowd begin to swell as peak travel time draws near. According to statements made by RapidKL, the route between Masjid Jamek and Gombak station was affected by the outage. Fortunately, on 4:01 PM, power has been restored, just in time before workers find their way back home.

Although Kelana Jaya Line now has been equipped with new four-coach trains, congestion during peak periods is still a norm. It is not as bad as KL Monorail though.

During power outage, shuttle buses are being provided by RapidKL. However, the signage is not clear enough, with most of the instructions only comes from twitter.

Inter-service communication was smooth as we can see some notice put up via electronic display at Imbi KL Monorail station. However, when the service backs to normal, the signage was not updated promptly. This may cause confusion to commuters.

The Blame Game – RapidKL says:

Six minutes later they announced it was due to power fault between Masjid Jamek and Gombak.

About an hour later, they said it is because of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB):

They even made a direct mention to TNB official twitter account, probably inducing commuters to address their complaints to TNB directly.

The Blame Game – TNB says:

Lets see what TNB has to say, via its corporate communications general manager, Omar Sidek:

“TNB would like to clarify that the stalled LRT services earlier Friday was due to switchgear fault at Rapid KL’s end.”

“We deny news reports that burnt TNB cables caused disruption to the LRT services”

Conclusion

While we cannot find conclusive evidence yet on the occurence, we believe some sort of miscommunication took place. We hope that emergency response team of both agencies will be more prepared for problems like this.

New KTM Intercity Timetable, Effective August 15th 2014

We have (finally!) updated the KTM Intercity schedule, effective August 15th 2014. We know we are slightly more than a month overdue but we feel the need to announce it to our visitors.

Some services were canceled due to SPAD’s directive on certain route along East Line.

There is no fare increase yet at this moment.

Users who book online do not need to show their physical ticket while onboard for inspection. Instead, they just need to show it on their phone screen with their ID (Malaysians: MyKad) for verification.

KTM Intercity is an inter-city passenger train service by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB). It provides passenger rail service to various parts of Peninsular Malaysia. Other than KTMB, there is only one other passenger rail service company, which is Sabah State Railway, covering rail tracks from Beaufort, Sabah to Tenom, Sabah.

Rescheduling of KTM Intercity Train Timetable: Effective August 15th 2014

KTM Berhad has rescheduled the train timetable for all KTM Intercity services. Listed below are the services affected:

  • No. 29: Tumpat – KL Sentral: Departure time rescheduled to 6:30 PM from Tumpat station
  • No. 83: Tumpat – Gua Musang: Departure time rescheduled to 2:30 PM from Tumpat
  • No. 84: Gua Musang – Tumpat: Departure time rescheduled to 6:00 PM from Gua Musang
  • No. 81: Tumpat – Kuala Lipis: The route changed from Tumpat to Gua Musang only
  • No. 82: Kuala Lipis – Tumpat: The route changed from Gua Musang to Tumpat only
  • No. 85: Tumpat – Kuala Lipis: TERMINATED
  • No. 86: Kuala Lipis – Tumpat: TERMINATED
  • No. 91: Tumpat – Woodlands: ROUTE CHANGE from Gemas to Woodlands only. NUMBER CHANGE from 91 to 61
  • No. 92: Woodlands – Tumpat: ROUTE CHANGE from Woodlands to Gemas only, NUMBER CHANGE from 91 to 62.

The change is due to partial closure of the route Gemas – Gua Musang as enforced by Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) starting from July 12th 2014. Please contact KTMB for further inquiries.
